"Live, Laugh, Love ebay"
A new e-book written by Marilyn Barton
"This is a book of stories. Each story is a small adventure about selling on ebay. It was a 90 day challenge to investigate this opportunity on the internet. The 23 chapters in this book start with the learning process of selling on ebay. There may be a laugh or two about people who buy crazy things on eBay. A quick read with lessons learned by the author as she treks through the paths of auctioning her life's accumulation of stuff!"

O'Neil Printing
2011
Hardcover: 240 pages
ISBN-13: 9780615495903
$39.95
It's expensive, but it should be available at the library if you don't want to buy it. I'll buy a copy and share. Should we read it in March or in April? I'm not sure when folks head for home. Our meetings will be on Monday, March 19th and Monday, April 16th. The book I'll put in the other spot is "A Widow for One Year", by John Irving. We enjoyed "A Prayer for Owen Meany" so this one should provide a good discussion, too.
Reminder: The February's book is "The Tiger's Wife" by Tea Obreht. We'll meet on Monday, February 20th for that discussion.

Erected by the Daughters of The Confederacy in 1943. This monument looks like a tombstone on a nice stone mount. Note the 'X' pattern in the rocks, a symbol of the 'Stars and Bars', the flag of the Confederate States of America. Jefferson Davis was the only president of this break-away nation. Arizona was briefly considered a confederate, or "rebel" territory, but their small military garrison was forced out by federal forces marched in from California at the Battle of Picacho Peak.
About that Hwy Marker across from Peralta Trails Entrance...
SAN TAN VALLEY – Pinal County District 2 Supervisor Bryan Martyn, a resident of San Tan Valley, today announced that he does not plan to seek re-election in 2012. Martyn has served as District 2 Supervisor since his election in 2008. He took his oath of office in January 2009 and is currently Vice-Chairman of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors.
“I did not seek office to become another of a long parade of lifetime politicians. In many respects, that’s what is wrong with this country. We have forgotten the citizen legislature mantra,” Martyn said. “I have accomplished a lot during my term and I wish to pass the baton to someone who will match my commitment and continue to do great things for Pinal County and Arizona.”
Some of the accomplishments during Martyn’s tenure include:
· Engaging members of Congress in the successful effort of bringing about legislation in support of Resolution Copper of Superior; hundreds of jobs, millions of dollars
· Opening of Banner Ironwood Medical Center, leading to the development of hundreds of acres of additional medical/dental/surgical and related offices around the hospital and immediately providing more than 200 local, head-of-household income jobs
· Establishing a Pinal County Economic Development Department with the sole purpose of bringing jobs into Pinal County
· Engaging citizen participation in the budget process, ultimately approving a budget reduction of more than 16%
· Voting to approve the most progressive County Comprehensive Plan in the State of Arizona
· Acquiring nearly $5M in Federal Funds for the initial improvement of Hunt Highway
· Eliminating the Pinal County taxpayer subsidy for recycling services and bringing private industry into the county to handle recycling services at no cost; a true model for public-private partnerships
· Seeking to protect funding levels for Arizona’s State Parks to include the Lost Dutchman State Park, McFarland State Park and the Boyce Thompson Arboretum while bringing together volunteer organizations and local municipality support
· Spearheading the renovation and re-use of the Pinal County Courthouse; effectively utilizing one-time Federal Funds to promote local economic development, historic preservation and job creation while meeting future county infrastructure needs
· Facilitating the environmentally conscious removal of over 685 acres of rodent-infested, dead citrus trees within the heart of San Tan Valley; all debris used as fuel for Snowflake Biomass Plant
“My wife, Susie, and my sons are an integral part of my team,” Martyn said. “Of my achievements to date, I am most proud of the young men we have raised. Second to that, I am proud of my service to this country and my district. I wish my successor the same fulfillment I have found in elected office.”
Supervisor Martyn resides in San Tan Valley with Susie, his wife of 24 years, and four sons ages 19, 18, 18 and 17.

KBAQ Launches Hearing the Century in Celebration of Arizona’s Centennial
Feb 1, 2012
Featuring Stories That Reveal Arizona’s History-- from an Artistic Point of View
(Phoenix, AZ – Jan. 25, 2012) Arizona radio listeners, history buffs and art lovers are in for a treat when KBAQ 89.5 FM launches a new radio series, Hearing the Century: Voices of Arizona’s Arts Past and Present, Feb. 1, at 8:30 a.m.
Hearing the Century will feature a collection of stories from the last one hundred years of the state’s arts and cultural history told by a variety of artists and scholars who will share historical perspectives, stories and legendary tales about Arizona’s artistic heritage. Contributors include award-winning cowboy poet Mike Dunn, painter and founder of Superstition Land Trust Anne Coe and award-winning filmmaker Dustinn Craig.
“The synergy between the station and our arts community at large has cultivated a series that I think will deepen and enrich our understanding of the state we call home,” said KBAQ Producer Jane Hilton, who is the project coordinator for the series. Hilton has been going through the pain-staking process of editing hours and hours of stories, finding and interweaving just the right story clips, music and natural sound to create a tapestry of three-minute features that she hopes will transport listeners into Arizona’s artistic past and present.
Working alongside Hilton is storyteller, writer and co-founder of the South Mountain Community College Storytelling Institute, Elizabeth Warren. “It's been such an incredible privilege to hear the stories of the artists and scholars being featured; they've deepened my understanding of how interconnected the arts are with the history of the state,” said Warren.
The 20 stories KBAQ will present focus on the unique styles and contributions of Arizona artists from the past and present-- specializing in music, theater, painting and other art forms-- from north, central and southern parts of the state. They will air weekdays during the month of February at 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on KBAQ 89.5 FM.
“Hearing the Century is our gift to the great state of Arizona in celebration of its centennial,” said Jim Paluzzi, KBAQ’s General Manager. “It’s a reflection of what we do best in public radio-- discovering and telling untold stories. We are grateful to Arizona’s government agencies, businesses, philanthropic organizations and citizens for making it possible to share Arizona’s legacy with our audience.”
“Storytelling is one of the most effective ways of teaching,” said Rio Salado College President Chris Bustamante. “Hearing the Century will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about Arizona’s past. We are proud to be a recipient of this gift to our state and to participate in celebrating Arizona’s 100-years of statehood.”
